Death and …Taxes

So, I’m finally getting around to finishing up my taxes.

I know I know.  I should have jumped all over this a few weeks ago.  I have a “complicated” return this year due to my varied workload.  I started out in Ohio in January and lived in my condo until the end of June.  I moved from Toledo OH to Owensboro KY when I started working at the Corvette Plant in Bowling Green, KY maintaining the schedule for the HUGE renovation.  After that was over – I interviewed and got a position with a company working out of Indiana.  So – I have documents for Ohio, Kentucky (with headquarters in Michigan), and Indiana.

This created a lot of extra schedules and interview questions for my TurboTax software.  I’ve been using TurboTax for my taxes since the early 2000’s as soon as I moved away from the 1040 EZ form.  The first year I used the software – it was on a 3-1/2″ diskette.  That should give you an idea.  But now that everything is online, it makes it so much easier.  I can easily access my previous documents and past returns.

I just need to get a little more information and I can submit.

Just needed a breather before heading back.

And yes – I am getting a refund.

Review: Vintage Retro Dial Plug-In Speaker (5 Below)

Vintage Retro Dial Plug-In Speaker

I purchased this speaker (in blue) from 5 Below a few days ago to hook up to the Amazon Alexa unit in my bedroom.  I unpacked the box and found the unit, a 3.5mm AUX plug, and micro USB charging cable.

I plugged in and charged the battery – took a few hours as we went to dinner.  When we got back, I plugged the unit into the Amazon Alexa unit and turned it on.  The front dial turned blue and then cycled through various colors.

Now the sound.  It did sound a little tinny, but not bad.  It was an improvement over the existing Alexa speaker.  I also liked the light show and the dial volume control.

Was it a good $5 purchase?  Absolutely.

Specs for the speaker:

  • colors: black, blue, mint or pink

G Fuel

G Fuel Fruit Punch

I’ve been feeling a little run down lately.  I don’t know if its been work, the weather, or even the recent time change.  I’ve been working on almost a liter of Mountain Dew a day for caffeine energy, but this was getting old.  I’ve been eating better and wanted to try something new.

I came across G Fuel watching a youtube video and ordered it on Amazon.  A few days later, it showed up at my front door.  My first serving was at 10 am yesterday (3-16-17) and I felt the surge of energy pretty quick.  My focus increased noticeably and I was able to get more work done in the afternoon that I have as of late.  I did get a little punchy about 7 pm after dinner.

When I did go to sleep, I was out within three minutes.  I slept solidly for about five hours.  I woke up for a little while around 2 am but was back asleep shortly.  I slept again until about 8 am.  It has been a long time since I slept so well.

This morning, I ate a breakfast and put together serving around lunchtime.  I am currently writing this while on my second day’s drink.

Ingredients (from the g fuel website):

As one of the original three G FUEL flavors to be released, Fruit Punch has proven itself to be good ole’ Mr. Reliable! Like the name suggests, this flavor tastes just like those Fruit Punch drinks you grew up with.

12 Angry Men – Theatre Workshop of Owensboro

This past weekend, my wife and I bought tickets for The Theater Workshop of Owensboro‘s presentation of TWELVE ANGRY MEN.

It was an awesome show.  We went for dinner earlier and walked down the street from the restaurant to the Empress Theatre.  The theater was originally built in 1912 and at one time was a silent film Malco Theater. I loved the architecture of the building.  There are rumours that the building is haunted.  I love stories like this!

Back to the play.  It was very well done, engaging and well played out.  The cast was believable and I was quickly brought into the story.  After the show, the cast was available for a meet and greet as we left.

Very impressed.  Looking forward to our next show!

Entry Level?

I saw this posted on a job board this morning.  There are a few confusing items.  Maybe it is just me – but when they state “Entry Level Project Leader I” and then “…should have extensive experience in a leadership capacity on one or more project teams…”  Also – the position showed up in the Nashville TN board but is for Columbia South Carolina.

I don’t know if I qualify or if I’m overqualified or if I would have to move…
