SideCut Park – Trail Tour 2016

This Saturday morning the sun was shining and there weren’t a lot of clouds in the sky.  I met up with a group of about 12 other people and our intent was to walk the red trail at SideCut Park.  It looks like they added a bike trail since we were here last and the red trail that used to go through the woods is a little more hidden.  Well, we walked the bike trail to the other side of 23 and around the field, looping around and making our way back.

Naturalist Education/2014 Trail Tour – Oak Openings

Today attended a training event through the Toledo MetroParks.  Volunteer Naturalist Training – a small group of us met at the Oak Openings with a few staff members from the park system.  A few group leaders as well as a naturalist walked us through the trails and pointed out different trees, fungi, ferns, and plants growing along the trails.  We also learned some of the history of the park and that the two lakes (Evergreen and Mallard) were man-made in the 1950’s in an effort to increase public attendance.

We ended up in the Campbell Prairie field to see butterflies, bees, and dragonflies.

Afterwards – I headed back to the Buehner Lodge for a hike around the brown trail with members from the Hiker’s Group.

Oak Openings – Trail Tour 2014

Today was a great day for a walk in the woods.

We had a size able group today for our walk at Oak Openings.  This is my favorite park and I always enjoy my time here.  We walked the Brown all-purpose trail as well as the Green trail by Evergreen lake.  You can tell spring is on its way as green is starting to poke through the brown winter ground.

It was a pleasure seeing a lot of returning hikers, as well as some that I haven’t seen in years and a lot of new faces.

Swan Creek 02-25-2012

This morning, went for a walk at Swan Creek in Toledo.  It was 28 degrees outside.  That, my friends, is cold.

We were expecting twelve people but ended up with five.  And that was four more than I expected.

Some of the trails were closed due to flooding and rerouting, but we still managed to walk the brown trail across the park, back around, and around the loop.

I invited members of the Toledo New in Town and Glass City Young Professionals Meetup Group.
